Holly Eary named Clinical Director

Carol Huber retired after 23 years as the Clinical Director at Cancer Family Care; Holly Eary has taken on the role.  Although Carol will be greatly missed, the clinical staff will be in good hands. Holly Eary is CFC’s new Clinical Director and she is thrilled to be stepping into the new role.

Holly is looking forward to growing with the agency and continuing to work with Cancer Family Care in a new way. The support CFC has provided and her 14 years of experience in Oncology have prepared her for the role in many ways. She says, “I really understand the client population and what their needs are. CFC is a great place to get a lot of professional support. We have regular peer-led consultations, an outside consultant coming in, and good support from each other. It’s a very collaborative learning environment and that helps with the longevity that we have here with all our clinical staff.”

When asked how those who have had the role before helped aid in CFC’s success, Holly says, “My predecessor, Carol was a great clinician and a very supportive supervisor so you couldn’t ask for anything more. It’s tough shoes to fill but she’s a great example of how to be a very compassionate supervisor and how to help us put our client’s needs first.”

Cancer Family Care’s Executive Director, Jill Settlemyre expresses why Holly was the perfect fit for the role, “Holly is an excellent therapist.  She has been supervising staff here for the past several years and was the Director of our Treehouse Children’s Program.  Her ability to work with clients and staff and her strategic way of looking at our programs made her the perfect choice for this position”.

Congratulations Holly on the new role, we are looking forward to seeing the impact you make!

Tammy Miller-Ploetz named Education and Outreach Manager

As we bring on a new clinical director, we have also added a new role, ‘Education and Outreach Manager’ who will provide additional support for our clinical staff and clients while also connecting with the community. After being with Cancer Family Care for 17 years, Tammy Miller-Ploetz will be CFC’s new Education and Outreach Manager.

When asked what Tammy is looking forward to in this new role she said, “I’m really excited to have more connection to the community and make our services more well-known and accessible to people who normally would not know about them. I am also really excited to explore more educational opportunities for myself and the team”. Therapists are constantly having to educate and increase their skills with practices that best work to care for their clients

Before creating the new role of the Education and Outreach Manager, the Clinical Director took on the responsibilities. “This is a new role, and it came about by wanting to split the clinical directors’ responsibilities a little bit. As Holly is the new Clinical director, I get to take on more of the educational side. I will be, mentoring and supervising students and making sure that our staff is connected with the right educational opportunities, whether that’s provided by us or outside agencies. The other side of it is connecting with other resources and just forming relationships”, says Tammy. With 25 years in Oncology and 17 years with Cancer Family Care, Tammy has extensive knowledge of the system and community and knows how to build strong, lasting relationships.

When asked how CFC has helped her develop as a therapist and leader, she responded “I think supervision and mentorship and the cohesiveness of our peer group has really helped me become a better-rounded therapist. I have discovered things I had never known about before and learned different techniques and approaches. We work with a high-quality team and take clinical services very seriously so being able to have these colleagues that I can discuss with and learn from…I think has been the best part of it all”, says Tammy.

Tammy praises her previous clinical director by saying, “Carol has a lot of gifts but one of the best gifts she gave me over the years was being heard and encouraging me to be myself and let my personality work in my favor. Carol was a huge part of supporting and encouraging me to want to do different things. I was very clear with her early on that I can’t just sit here and do therapy 25 hours a week, so she always helped me look for other opportunities.   Whether it was community engagement, public speaking, or mentorship of students, she really encouraged that and helped me know that it is okay to diversify and to make myself the best therapist I can be”.

“Tammy is always looking for new opportunities to learn, teach and share knowledge.  She is a terrific therapist and presenter. Her dedication to sharing the services CFC provides, in addition to her expertise in helping others learn new techniques in psychosocial care, will benefit CFC and the oncology community at large,” says Jill Settlemyre, CFC Executive Director.

Cancer Family Care is fortunate to have Tammy on our team and we are excited to see the new and exciting ways we can support our clients and community through this role.
